Understanding the World

We know that curious children are more motivated to find out more. Our curriculum is designed to expose children to a range of interesting themes, knowledge and skills that will form the foundations for building on geographically, historically, scientifically and in Religious Education lessons in Year 1 and beyond. Practitioners will also be looking out for children’s own individual interests to capitalise on these.

Direct personal experiences are the starting points for children to learn about the world around them.

We provide trips, visitors and hands-on activities where children can learn by using all of their senses to broaden their understanding of the world and make deeper connections in their learning.

Carefully selected stories, non-fiction texts, rhymes, poems, photographs, videos, simple maps and artefacts are all used to support learning and develop vocabulary and language.
